Experience the fastest version of Teams yet, rebuilt from the ground up. With a performance-first mindset, the new Teams is faster, simpler, and more flexible than ever before. In the new Teams, you can switch between apps, respond to chat messages, and join meetings and calls more quickly while using less battery and memory. Launch and navigate in fewer clicks and use it more flexibly by eliminating silos and bringing everyone together in one place. Plus, the layout of the new Teams is largely the same as what you're used to.

Start using the new Teams

You'll see a toggle with Try the new Teams at the top left of Teams. If you don't see this toggle, contact your IT admin.

Notes:

  • Minimum system requirements for the new Teams: Window 10 Vibranium 10.0.19041 and Microsoft Teams (work or school) version 1.5.00.29212 or higher.

  • Support for the new Teams on Mac OS and on the web are coming soon.

To use the new Teams:

  1. Open the Teams desktop app on your Windows device.

  2. Turn on the Try the new Teams toggle at the top of Teams.

    UI

  4. Your Teams app will reboot to open the new Teams. Any subsequent actions you take will happen in the new Teams by default, like joining a Teams meeting from Outlook.

When in the new Teams, turn on (or off) notifications by selecting Settings and more Teams more icon at the top of the new Teams, then selecting Settings>Notifications>Open Windows notifications settings. Find Microsoft Teams (work preview) in the apps list and set your preference.

Add another Teams account

With Multi-Tenant Multi-Account (MTMA) support in the new Teams, you can sign into multiple work or school accounts (or as a Guest in other organizations) without signing in on multiple web browsers.

When you add accounts to your Teams desktop app, you can:

  • Receive real-time notifications from all the accounts (and all associated organizations);

  • Participate in chats, meetings, and calls across multiple accounts and organizations without dropping from a call or meeting to switch accounts/orgs, and

  • Set your status for each account and organization individually.

To add another account, select your profile picture at the top right of the new Teams, then select Add another work account

Switch back to classic Teams

We’re still working on this version, so some things aren’t available yet. It's easy to toggle back and forth between using the classic and new Teams, so you can take advantage of the new Teams performance enhancements on some days and switch back to the classic Teams when you need to.

To switch back to the classic Teams, turn off the New Teams toggle at the top of Teams.

Toggle to switch back to classic Teams

If you are in a meeting or call while turning off the toggle, a notification will ask you to confirm the switch. Your call or meeting will be disconnected.

UI

When you switch between the new and classic Teams, the version you’re currently using will close and the one you’re switching to will automatically open and become your default version.
